Signing up your son or daughter at one of the many martial arts schools in Las Vegas is an excellent way to help them master great skill, dexterity, strength, confidence and discipline. This will serve them immensely throughout their school years and beyond. However, a brief look online yields a great number and diversity of martial arts forms available here in Las Vegas, from Capoeira, Taekwondo and Aikido to Kung Fu, Karate and Judo. Which one will best serve you or your child’s needs?
Here is a brief summary of some of the more popular systems of martial arts offered by Las Vegas gyms. But first…
Some Advice from the American Tai Chi Association:
Whenlooking for a martial arts school in Las Vegas, try to find one that teaches pure forms of martial arts, rather than a hybrid of, for example kickboxing and jujitsu. A mixing the teachings of two different kinds of martial arts can distract your child from the core teachings and deeper learning afforded by one or the other, thereby taking them longer to become proficient.
Ju Jitsu: Originating in Japan, Jujitsu is a form of martial arts that focuses on self-defense using balance and your opponent's body weight, speed and strength against him or her. Jiu jitsu is performed as a competitive sport and allows contestants to become involved in national and international competitions!
Tai Chi: Tai Chi is a very popular form of martial arts offered by Las Vegas martial arts gyms, but its focus lies outside of self-defense. T’ai Chi, originating in China, is a system of movements and poses that are done to improve concentration and focus and increase strength, balance and flexibility. It’s a wonderful form of meditation and very beneficial to people who lead a busy and stressful life.
Kung Fu: Also originating in China, Kung Fu is perhaps one of the best-known forms of martial arts in Las Vegas. It’s an aggressive and rigorous form of martial arts that is similar to Karate (Japanese), although it’s more fluid in its movements and therefore not so taxing on the joints. Being a fast-paced system, Kung Fu gives participants and excellent cardiovascular workout.
